María Luisa Sein-Echaluce: "PERSONALISED LEARNING BASED ON WEB - BASIC MATH"

Wednesday 21. 4. 2010, 10:30, EkFA1004

Zpráva z pondělí: Přednáška prof. Sein-Echaluce se bude konat i přes "nepřízeň nebe"!

María Luisa Sein-Echaluce, Ph.D., Technical University of Zaragoza, Spain

is associate professor in the Dept. of Applied Mathematics at the Universidad de Zaragoza, Spain. Since ten years ago, she has been the coordinator of the I2FM research group: Investigación e Innovación en Formación Matemática (http://i2fm.es) concentrating on the use of ICT in the innovation of education, with the participation of researchers of the Universitat Jaume I of Castellón, Spain.
Her research currently focuses on the use of new methodologies and online technologies for the innovation of education. She is working on the experimentation of MOODLE Conditionals developed by CICEI (Universidad de las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain) to personalize learning itineraries.
She takes part in national projects with other research groups (such as LITI at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain), research and educational committees at the Department and the Centre, the organization of national events, training activities for teachers at university and local government institutions and also in Conferences.
She also cooperates with foreign researchers in Milano (Italy), Montreal (Canada), Ostrava (Czech Republic) and Sligo (Ireland) by means of agreements between institutions to exchange knowledge and experiments in teaching and research.

  • Address: Departamento de Matemática Aplicada, Universidad de Zaragoza, Campus Rio Ebro, Maria de Luna 3, 50018 Zaragoza, Spain; telephone: (34)976761979; e-mail: mlsein@unizar.es

The objectives of the seminar would be:

showing the automatized and personalized learning which the "Moodle Conditionals" provide and facilitate the communication between your students and some students of Business at my University. Of course, taking advantage of the designed course in Moodle, the students will be able to self evaluate their knowledge in one basic unit of Maths.

Lectures Content

A course in Moodle with some resources and activities (quizzes, task, forum) around a basic topic of Maths is prepared. The course is designed with different paths.
  • In that way the students will follow different paths depending on the answers to an initial quiz or/and other activities during their learning process.
  • Besides, they will use the same material that some Italian and Spanish students are using (perhaps it could be interesting for them).
  • Plus, during the seminar, some few Spanish students of Business could participate in the same Moodle course and share information with your students by means of the forums of the course.
  • We also could add visual communication by Skype, for example.
About the Maths topic included in this specific course...for example:
  • Functions: composition, domain, their graphs, transformations (a selection of those will be done).
  • A list of topics for which we have the English version of theoretical files and many quizzes in case you prefer to change the Maths topic of the course for the Seminar is attached.

In that way we could cover the following aims:

  1. To show your students a basic course in Maths, already used by similar students in Spain and Italy, in order to support their learning. Perhaps ... to encourage them (and your colleagues) to use this basic course in Maths (with more topics) at any place and any time.
  2. To use itineraries in Moodle to help your students, by attending to diversity of their initial background and their progress during the learning process.
  3. To allow the students the self evaluation in a basic Maths topic during the Seminar.
  4. To establish communication with Spanish students of similar degrees during the Seminar.

The lectures will be held on Computer Room.
